TAFE NSW and Microsoft have partnered to establish the Datacentre Academy – an Australian-first initiative addressing the urgent demand for skilled workers in the digital infrastructure sector. The Academy delivers training in two critical and fast-growing job roles: Datacentre Technician and Critical Environment Technician.
At the heart of this program is a co-designed, industry-led model that ensures training is directly aligned with workforce needs. Students gain hands-on learning in a purpose-built simulated datacentre lab, industry-recognised Microsoft certifications, mentoring opportunities, and the chance to interview with Microsoft and its partner network. This integrated approach bridges education and employment, ensuring learners are job-ready from day one.
The first student cohort commenced in Semester 1, 2025, and graduated with remarkable outcomes: over 60% of participants secured employment within four weeks of completion, a testament to the strength of the TAFE NSW–Microsoft partnership and the direct industry connections embedded in the program.
The success of the Datacentre Academy has already driven both national and international interest, paving the way for expansion and replication across other regions. This case study demonstrates how collaborative design between education and industry can create scalable, future-focused solutions that address skills shortages while transforming student outcomes.
By setting a new benchmark for partnership-driven education, the Datacentre Academy positions TAFE NSW as a leader in co-designed, industry-aligned training — delivering impact for students, employers, and the broader digital economy.
