The FSO’s AI Skills Accelerator is an ambitious and innovative initiative designed to rapidly uplift AI capability at scale across Australia’s network of TAFES and vocational Registered Training Organisations. Operating as a collaborative forum, the Accelerator now brings together more than 400 industry partners, TAFEs, and training providers. As the lead agency, the Future Skills Organisation (FSO) is driving a national approach focused on foundational AI skills for all workers as well as targeted capability uplift for the education and training workforce.
This session will outline FSO’s strategy for building an AI‑ready workforce and share early insights and tangible outcomes emerging from the Accelerator. These findings offer important implications for the TAFE sector, their teachers and trainers, educators, practitioners, and system leaders.
The presentation will also provide an update on the Australian Government’s AI Capability Plan and demonstrate how the Accelerator is supporting its implementation. Current projects will be highlighted, including the use of AI in training product development and new tools designed to help TAFEs adopt AI across their workforces.
Finally, the session will present early findings from FSO’s national AI skills report, which will deliver Australia’s first comprehensive view of AI capability demand and supply as part of the National AI Plan. Collectively, these initiatives show how coordinated investment and cross‑sector collaboration can accelerate Australia’s readiness for an AI‑enabled future.
